What started as a “Pandemic Purchase” has now turned into a budding business between husband and wife duo Kris and Erin Steele. The couple purchased a mini farm nestled in 10 wooded acres of Leicester, NC in November 2020 with the idea of starting a regenerative farm that included a weekend getaway for their small family with quick access to Asheville, NC. With three acres of cleared land and a log cabin already built, they began planning the early stages of the farm with the help of Shawn Jadrnicek (previously of Wild Hope Farm in Chester, SC). Fruit trees and bushes, an irrigation system and animal grazing paddocks were planned and the couple decided to list the modernized log cabin on Airbnb for short term rentals in April of 2021 to share the space publicly.
“The Keep” was finally coined in the summer of 2021 with the help of local graphic designer Mel Shields. Many thanks to Mel for helping us workshop the name; design our logo, branding materials, social media posts and website; and for your patience. (Sorry Kris was always eating or almost falling asleep on those Zoom calls!)
